As Vernon Memorial Healthcare prepared for future growth and evolving patient needs, leadership recognized the opportunity to modernize the organization’s identity to better reflect its full scope of services, regional presence, and community values. Despite its longstanding reputation for excellence in patient-centered care, VMH’s existing brand no longer fully communicated the breadth, unity, or future direction of the organization.
Several key challenges surfaced:
Outdated Branding: The “Vernon Memorial Healthcare” name and visual identity, while familiar, did not accurately represent the full healthcare system—including clinics, pharmacies, and expanded services—limiting the brand’s clarity and cohesion.
Fragmented System Recognition: Across its multiple locations and service lines, there was a lack of unified branding, which sometimes created confusion for patients and weakened overall system recognition.
Limited Emotional and Community Connection in Messaging: The previous brand lacked a clear, resonant story that tied together the organization’s legacy, mission, and aspirations in a way that emotionally engaged patients, staff, and the broader community.

The process began with in-depth brand discovery workshops involving staff, leadership, and community members to ensure the new brand was deeply rooted in shared values and local input. EMG guided the organization through name development, ultimately transitioning to “Vernon Health”—a name that reflects both the breadth of the system and its commitment to accessible, compassionate care. The visual identity was also overhauled, including the creation of a bold new logo featuring a stylized “V” surrounded by figures representing people and community, centered around a cross symbolizing healthcare.
To ensure consistency and usability across departments and locations, EMG developed a comprehensive brand standards guide, including messaging frameworks and usage guidelines. Supporting materials included social media toolkits, graphic design templates for rack cards, PowerPoint slides, billboards, wayfinding signage, and more—giving Vernon Health the tools to maintain brand integrity at every level.

Nationally recognized by Healthgrades, Vernon Health has been named one of America's 100 Best Hospitals for Joint Replacement for three consecutive years and has received Joint Replacement Excellence Awards for 11 years. The organization ranks in the top 5% nationally for joint replacement outcomes over the past decade and in the top 10% for 11 consecutive years. With 18 years as a Five-Star Recipient for Total Knee Replacement and three years for Total Hip Replacement, Vernon Health is a leader in orthopedic surgery and joint care, consistently delivering outstanding outcomes and patient satisfaction.
